A brief introduction to me and what to expect from this publication
Hello all! Welcome to my Substack! I’ve been getting more involved in the book world as of late, and since I don’t really like taking photos, I don’t know how to edit videos, I do like to write, and I watched my friend Elle of Ellexamines set up a Substack of her own, I figured it was time for me to do the same.
Who am I?
I am Lizardley (he/him)! I’m currently a MA student studying early modern English literature (think Shakespeare to Milton for time period). I’ll read just about anything, but I tend towards the fantasy, science fiction, and horror genres. I have a particular fondness for queerness in general, mlm in particular, magic, characters who just kind of suck, and cosmic horror. I have a Goodreads! I also have a bookstagram account that I briefly ran in high school that you’re never seeing!
What is this Substack going to look like?
I’m hoping to send this out every week, but I’m doing a lot of travel soon and also have three shows happening, so we’ll see if that manages to happen. I’m planning on dividing it up into these subsections:
What I’m Reading for Fun
Self-explanatory. What I’m reading right now, just for the love of the game, and my thoughts on it. ARCs will also be included here, because I technically read them for fun. Sometimes they are not fun to read, because I’m still developing my ability to tell when an ARC will be bad. I’m getting better at it.
ARC Counter
I have requested too many things from NetGalley. They will get read, but this will give me added impetus to read them. Think self-imposed public shaming.
What I’m Reading for School
What I’m reading for my master’s program, and my thoughts on that. I am about to begin the process of writing my dissertation. Get ready for academic articles, so I can pretend that this Substack counts as being productive while I procrastinate on working on my dissertation.

Random/Reader’s Choice
I’ll provide a list of 2-3 books that fall under a certain category. Think “two nickels” situations, instances of me being a hater, instances of me not being a hater, etc. If any reader has a topic that they’d like me to give examples of for here, comment it!

End Poem (not like in Minecraft)
I would like to read more poetry, so I’m going to share some down here! This should encourage me to find more that I like in my handy dandy Poetry Anthology that I got from the English department book cull.
